Professionalism In Realty |
In the real world, the significance of a brand or designation is undoubted.
These are universally recognised as valuable assets and attract reliance,
trust and credibility. With people able to command position and prestige,
such attributes are a source of respect and esteem, which, in turn, provide
opportunity and power.

However, unlike
several other professions such as accountancy, medical and insurance, real estate
as a career option has poor image, given the lack of professionalism that the
industry exhibits. The absence of adequate educational infrastructure and excessive
dependency on government agencies has resulted in a dearth of qualified practitioners,
which to a large extent has curtailed progressive thinking, sustained industry
dialogue, public private partnership and technical know-how.
Lack of clarity
around real estate qualification is further tarnishing the reputation of the
sector and undermining India’s corporate competitiveness. Gradual reforms, talk
of establishing a regulatory body and exposure to international standards and
best practices are now encouraging the real estate and construction industry
to address the challenges to educate professionals in order to achieve the level
of competence and professionalism as exhibited by counterparts the world over.
Over the years,
various professions have felt the urge to develop and extend the principle of
recognition through qualifications. This allows professional institutions to
develop specialized education and training frameworks that will provide a strong
foundation towards ensuring the highest standards of professional etiquette,
integrity and practice.
