60 Construction Firms Win NICMAR Awards

The much awaited event of Construction World NICMAR Awards 2007 was held at ITC Maratha in Mumbai on 30 October 2007, drawing a host of celebrities and rewarding 60 companies for their performances.

Construction World is the largest circulated magazine on the subject across India and the Gulf with independent editions. This was the day when awards were given for the fifth year in succession.

Among the 60 firms which received awards in 12 different categories were Maytas Infra, Subhash Projects, Ers Infra, Essar Constructions, Navayuga Engineering, Lanco Infratech, Larsen & Toubro, BEML, ECEL, ACE and Atlas Copco.

The prizes were distributed by the Chief Guest, Dr. T. Subbrami Reddy, Unuion Minister of State for Mines , and the Guest of Honour, M. Venkata Ramana Rao, Andhra Pradesh Minister of Infrastructure & Investment, Ports, Airports and Natural Gas.

About 500 top level corporate captains of India attended the function. Also present were Atul Tandon, Chairman, ASAPP Media, Dr. A. Ramakrishna, former Managing Director of L&T, and film-maker Ashok Pandit.

In the words of Pratap Vijay Padode, MD, ASAPP Media Information Group, “Construction stocks are ruling the stock markets too and we have added new categories of real estate in our model for evaluation of growth.”

 
Global Majors Throng Furniture Fair

Universal Expositions Ltd. (UEL) organised India's largest furniture fair — Index International Furniture Fair 2007 — at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, between December 5 and December 8, 2007. The focus was mainly on finished furniture and all the products that complement it, like lighting, furnishing, furniture hardware and interior accessories.

The fair had more than 100 exhibitors and was spread over an area of 20,000 sq.mts. International brands such as Arredo Classic, Art Design Group, B.T.C. International, Bastex, Bizzarri, Cantori, Desirée, Effebiquattro, Elledue Arredamenti, Flou, Friulintagli Industries, Gardesa, Girasole, Gold Line, Gori Cucine, Laboratorio del Marmo, Lumina, Matteograssi, Mepsystem, Mida, Mobilificio Tre Ci, Nord Light, Paola Lenti, Pordenone Export, Presotto, Reflex, Riva Mobili d'Arte, Scavolini, Segis, Sicis, Stellare Mobili 2, Stival, Tonin Casa , Tonon & C., Uffix, Vitemper participated in the extravagant affair.


Reputed Builders Take Part in Chennai Fair

IDBI Homes-2007, a three-day mega property exhibition organised by IDBI Bank Ltd. at Valluvarkottam, Chennai, got a warm reception from reputed builders, flat promoters and the general public in the city.

Many construction entrepreneurs had installed their pavilions giving an opportunity to provide ready access and wide choice for aspiring flat buyers and all others at the same platform.


Urban Planners Told To Think Of Future

Aseminar on urban growth planning and regularization was organised by the Directorate of Town and Country Planning in Chennai recently. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Town Planning and Urban Development Parithi Ilamvazhuthi pointed out that the success of urban and town planning schemes depend on the extent to which they reach the people concerned. The minister also added that the burgeoning population in urban areas was an obstacle in implementing the plans proposed for the development.

Housing and Urban Development secretary R. Sellamuthu called upon urban and rural planners to adopt a futuristic approach and take into account various issues, including the impact of rising number of vehicles.


Huge Response At KOAPA Expo

The Karnataka Ownership Apartments Promoters Association (KOAPA), the reputed trade body of organised real estate developers in Karnataka, organised Bangalore’s bi-annual KOAPA Realty Expo 2007. The event was held at The Grand Ashok on December 8 and December 9, 2007.

One of the largest real estate events in the city, the expo brought leading property developers and housing financial institutions under one roof to offer a choice of homes at competitive prices to the people. The response to the event was tremendous, and people visited it in large numbers. The main sponsors for the Realty Expo were LIC Housing Finance Ltd. with ICICI Bank Home Loans as co-sponsors.

The two-day event this year witnessed participation by over 42 property developers and five housing finance institutions, providing avenue for leading builders to exhibit their projects at a venue and making it easier for the people to make their choice. The event is one of Bangalore’s largest and most exclusive real estate exhibitions, tailor-made for people who intend to purchase flats or apartments.


Energy Conservation Handbook Released

The Indian Buildings Congress — a national level and interdisciplinary NGO devoted to the cause of ‘built environment’ — has published ‘Practical Handbook On Energy Conservation In Buildings’ under a joint banner with Nabhi Publications. The handbook was released by A. Chakrabarti, President, Indian Building Congress and Director General Works, CPWD on December 10, 2007.

The handbook provides a wide spectrum of energy conservation methods in built environment right from conception to execution and finally the utilisation stage of the built environment. The handbook complies with the provisions of Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) of Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The book is likely to serve as a helping tool for all stakeholders of the built environment.
